biomechanical assessment
Your feet are the foundation of your skeletal system - their position and function have an impact on all the major joints of the body.
What is a Biomechanical Assessment?
A biomechanical assessment, otherwise known as musculoskeletal (MSK) podiatry, is the assessment of the foot, ankle and lower limbs to determine the cause of muscle and joint dysfunction that arise due to poor postural and dynamic foot function.
At David Brown Podiatry, we carry out biomechanical assessments to establish the cause, and more importantly the treatment plan required to correct poor foot mechanics resulting in:
Heel Pain
Arch Pain
Forefoot Pain
Knee Pain
Hip Pain
Back Pain

History
Our MSK (musculoskeletal) podiatrist will take a full medical, lifestyle & occupational history to determine whether any of these factors may cause or contribute to your presenting issue. This information is taken during a private consultation and stored on our secure database for your privacy & security.
Assessment
We will assess the ranges of motion of the main joints of your feet, ankle and lower limbs, and test muscle strength and flexibility. We analyse your balance, posture and gait using 3D Footscan© technology to discover how your feet interact with the ground.
Treatment
We will then advise on a suitable treatment plan by: modifying lifestyle, footwear, strengthening & stretching exercises. Orthotic insoles may also be prescribed to redistribute load and prevent repetitive injury. Shockwave and laser therapy may also be used to reduce pain and inflammation.
